An iPhone app from SOMA Labs
SOMA Commute
For people who commute from Maplewood or South Orange into New York, on NJ Transit to Penn Station, or to Hoboken and then the PATH. Open it in the morning and it tells you which train you can still make.
Coming soon to the App Store
What it does
-
The boards, for both ends
Departures for your home station and for the city, with track numbers, countdowns and delays. The train at the top is the next one you can actually catch.
-
Your whole trip in one line
The town jitney to the station, the train, and the PATH if you're going through Hoboken, all together, with the time you'll arrive.
-
Jitney schedules built in
The Maplewood and South Orange jitney schedules are in the app, including special schedules like the ones during NJ Transit's Portal North Bridge work.
-
A heads-up when it's time
A reminder when it's time to leave, or time to board. On the Lock Screen, a Live Activity counts down to your train and shows when you'll get in.
-
A likely track at Penn
At Penn Station, a hint about which track your train will probably use, before the board posts it.
-
Still works in the tunnel
If the signal drops, the app keeps going from the day's timetable, so you aren't left looking at a blank screen.
There's no account and nothing to sign up for. Pick your stations once and you're set.
SOMA Commute is an independent app made by a neighbor. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to NJ Transit or the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Train and PATH times come from them, and the boards at the station are always the final word.
